Interview With Franchisees Nick Daley and Mick Sherlock

WO: Tell us about yourselves?

ND: Thirty-five years old married with two children, Harry aged six and Martha aged four. After leaving University in 2007 after studying Spanish and Music, I found myself working in a sales role while I was waiting to get a start date from Greater Manchester Police.

After funding cuts, I could no longer get into the Police, so I continued to work in sales. After eight years in sales, I joined UPS and have now been in logistics for seven years.

MS: Forty-three years old, with two young boys aged ten and eight. My partner also has two boys of very similar ages.

I graduated from University and after not knowing what career path to take I moved to Spain, where I lived for five years.

Here I fell into the world of sales and had a very successful career in real estate. After returning to the UK and a period of working for Yell and then started in logistics with UPS.

It was the time at UPS that would eventually lead me to World Options

If I am not working, I am busy with the boys and my partner. We love anything outdoors and I like to keep extremely active.

WO: How did you both learn about the franchise opportunities that World Options offers?

ND: While working at UPS I knew various account managers who dealt with resellers and World Options always stood out, mainly due to the non-geographical franchise model.

MS: Previously I worked at UPS for several years and for a period I was the World Options account manager. It was this initial insight that sparked my interest to become a franchise owner.

WO: What was it that attracted you to want to buy a World Options franchise?

ND: With two very young children I wanted something that would allow me to work closer to home and not travel as much, also something which would allow me to build a residual income, to allow me enjoy more time with family.

MS: My business partner Nick Daley and I liked the World Options model and felt it was the right time for us to become business owners.

WO: What did you find the process of purchasing a World Options franchise to be like?

ND: The process was straightforward, being from the industry helped me understand the level of customer that we could potentially bring on, allowing me to see how quickly we could get a return on investment.

MS: The purchase was very straightforward. Nick dealt with a lot of the early negotiations and found Howard to be extremely knowledgeable.

WO: What can we expect to see from your franchise in the coming months?

ND: We have grown rapidly in a short space of time, so in the next few months we will continue to push for 20 + new shippers per month while ensuring our base is maintained and growing.

We are recruiting new team members to ensure we maintain the growth.

MS: Our aim was to become one of the top-performing franchises within 3 years, which we have managed to achieve.

Our focus recently has been the expansion of our business through recruitment.

WO: Do you have any advice for someone looking to buy a World Options Franchise?

ND: Set out the strategy of how you plan to succeed, there are many successful franchises, and most of them do things differently than the others. Play to your strengths and focus on new business. We have monthly and quarterly forecasts that help us stay on track and ensure we are achieving what we set out to achieve.

MS: Like any purchase, it’s important to do your research. Ask yourself why World Options is the right business for you. Plan and forecast your 1, 2 and 3-year plans. There is a large amount of support available from Head Office but it’s down to you to make it successful. Once you are confident you have the right skills to be a successful World Options business owner then its all down to hard work.

WO: What is your favourite holiday?

ND: In 2018 I went to Las Vegas with around ten friends and family members, it was by far the greatest holiday I have been on!

MS: I love holidays! My two favourites are snowboarding with my boys and New York.

WO: Hobbies?

ND: I love to play golf and am a member of a local club. I also enjoy going to watch Man Utd.

MS: Mountain biking, Walking, Snowboarding and Wakeboarding.
