What did you do before deciding to become a World Options franchisee?
Got a fair bit of industry knowledge, so I kind of knew what I was doing. I knew it could work.
Why did you decide to purchase a World Options franchise?
When I called head office the first time, I happened to pick up the phone to Howard, and he sort of spoke me through it and the culture and the kind of the ideas about World Options. I really liked, obviously, I know the plan for growth is there, and we're not sort of stagnating at all, which was something that really attracted me to it.
What's changed for you since becoming a World Options franchisee?
We grew a lot quicker than I thought we would. The first few months were far better than I think we could have expected them to be, and then sort of realizing we could afford staff and afford to move into an office in a warehouse and then employ some more staff and just keep reinvesting the money that we've made into growth has been the biggest highlight for me.
Just not really getting bored—just love coming to work every day, and there's always something different to do.
How did you make your franchise a success?
Probably the key elements to kind of get us to grow a bit further were certainly staff, as I mentioned, but similarly, more conversations with customers, and understanding the upsell opportunities and cross-sell opportunities that we had.
A lot of the stuff we were doing was maybe a small part of their business, but once we had that rapport with them, we could then dig a little bit further, and those customers we got started small but grown into something much bigger than we probably thought they would. So we made it a success.
What advice would you give to people thinking about becoming a World Options franchisee?
When people ask that, I'm never really sure what to say. Even at the conference, when franchisees come and ask, yeah, what’s different?
And I don’t think we’re doing anything amazing. There’s nothing special, really. It's just we're spending all our time trying to grow. So obviously, as I said, staff helped with that massively, but in the start, when we were doing it, it was fully 24/7—well, 24/5 probably, or 12/5 more accurately—trying to get customers on board.
So you’ve just got to jump in with both feet and keep hammering the phone. And the network is fantastic. There are so many franchises you could talk to, and they’ll be more than willing to offer their time. Tips for new franchises would be just—just go for it. It's going to work, and it's one of those things; if it's not working, then you just find a way to make it work. It's as simple as that.
