Paul Cannon
What did you do before becoming a World Options franchise owner?
Immediately prior to becoming a franchise owner, I was a director of one of Europe's largest logistics and shipping companies, employing, at the time, over 6,000 employees in Europe.
What attracted you to the shipping industry?
I've been in the shipping industry since I was 20. And most people defaulted into it, but I wanted in. I loved it and enjoyed the ride. Every day is a different day. There are immense challenges and pressures, but very often, great pleasure.
At what point did you decide you wanted to build your own empire?
I previously built my own empire prior to World Options and the latest company I worked for. I wanted my own business again, just this time not asset-based. Having seen the World Options franchise and the client, I realized it had a real appeal to me and gave me the flexibility I needed to go forward.
World Options gave me everything I needed. At the time, I had two young children to bring up. I needed something that got me close to home, away from the corporate world. As it allowed me to grow as my independence has come further on, I've been able to put that energy back into the franchise and develop it. So it's been a perfect fit.
What was key to your franchise's success?
Believe in the product and build relationships with your clients. Bring in the right team to support the business and support them. We're all very close as a team. We're all committed to each other, we support each other, and that has undoubtedly paid dividends over the last 18 months, where we've seen tremendous growth.
What advice would you give future World Options franchisee?
Be committed if you are considering it. Go visit Head Office. Head Office is where you'll meet the people who support you. You're not alone on the journey, and I would recommend it to anyone.
